Formalities
Entry
visa into Jordan can be obtained upon arrival at Jordanian airports
or borders if arriving by land. Although most
foreign nationals can obtain a visa upon arrival yet there remains a few
nationalities that are considered Restricted and need to obtain a
visa
prior to arrival in Jordan. A 2-week stay is usually granted
and
can be extended at any Police station in Jordan.
Visa
fees for all nationalities:
JOD 11 for single entry (USD 16) & JOD 22 for 2 entries or six months stay
(USD 32).
Departure tax:
Airport: JOD 10 (USD 14) / Borders: JOD 4 (USD 6)
Ramtha/Jaber (Syrian border): JOD 6 (USD 9)
A
Group of 5 and more traveling together and staying in Jordan
for
more than 2 nights will obtain a free entry visa. Once same group
remains in Jordan for more than 4 nights, visa fees and
exit
taxes are henceforth exempted.

Health Information
No Vaccination required unless
arriving from a region that has
been affected by an endemic or contagious
disease.
Filtered tap water is generally safe to drink. However, it is advisable
to
drink bottled mineral water ( fairly inexpensive
and available everywhere ). Jordan is probably
one
of the cleanest countries in the world. The usual precautions apply about
washing bought fruits and vegetables. It is advisable
to avoid
salads and raw foods, especially if they look at all tired.

Safety & Security
Although from time to time the Middle East is
affected by unforeseen
instabilities , yet Jordan continues to enjoy an
unmatched level of safety and security . Rarely has Jordan been affected
by events in the Middle East and has always been a very safe place for
tourists and foreigners.
The military in Jordan keeps a very low profile, and, unlike many countries,
travelers will not be continuously stopped at checkpoints and be asked
for documents . One can freely take a walk after
hours without having to feel unsafe. Police
cruisers and Walking Gendarmes keep the streets very safe at
night. Hence, low crime
rate as opposed to other regional and foreign countries.

Climate
The climate of Jordan is
marked by sharp seasonal
variations in both temperature and precipitation.Temperatures below freezing
are not unknown in January, the coldest month, but the average winter temperature is above 7° C
(45° F). In the Jordan Valley summer temperatures may reach
38° C (100°F) in August, the hottest month, but the average summer temperature in Amman is
28°C
(82° F). Precipitation is confined largely to winter
season
and ranges from about 660 mm (about 26") in the northwestern
corner to less than 127 mm (less than 5 in) in the extreme east.

Jordan is 2 hours ahead of GMT in winter, and 3 hours
ahead in summer. It's now

All of Jordan is on 220 volts, 50Hz.
Supply is reliable and power cuts are very rare.

Currency, Credit Cards & Rate of Exchange
The Jordanian Dinar (JOD) is approximately 1.40
US Dollar.
Paper notes come in: half, one, five, ten, twenty and fifty Dinars.
Widely used coins are as follows:
5 Piasters (50 Fils)
10 Piasters (100 Fils)
50 Piasters (500 Fils or 1/2 a Dinar).
100 Piasters (1000 Fils or 1 Dinar).
Banks close on Fridays and Saturdays. Exchange Bureaus are widely
available and open all week except on Fridays.
Travelers’ Cheques are accepted by all banks and most hotels.
Major Credit Cards are accepted in most hotels, and are widely accepted
by restaurants and shops
